ABOUT THE OUTHOUSE RACES

The Cochrane Outhouse Races will take place in historic downtown Cochrane on September 22nd 2024 where teams from local businesses and organizations push homemade outhouse race carts down First Street, chuck wagon-style.

​

All outhouses must have a toilet inside, four people from the team will push, and a fifth will ride on the “throne” inside. This year, only runners can turn the cart; the rider is just along for the ride, and riders must wear helmets. We welcome any creative interpretations of these basic rules!

​

To register, each team contributes a donation, with all proceeds donated by the Rocky Mountain Rotary Club to local organizations in need. The benefactor each year is announced in advance and recognized at the event itself.

​

The generosity of our community is remarkable, making this quirky event a draw for visitors from far and wide, always bringing laughs and friendly competition. Join us for a fun-filled afternoon!

Event Schedule

FOR SPECTATORS

10:00 AM - 10:30 AM

  • Arrival & Setup

    • Participants will arrive and set up their outhouses near Mackays Ice Cream. Feel free to grab a spot along the street to get a good view of the action!

11:00 AM

  • Race Event Begins

    • The races kick off with team introductions by our lively MCs. Get ready for some thrilling heats as teams compete to win!

12:00 - 12:30 PM

  • Halftime Entertainment & Raffle

    • Enjoy some entertainment while our raffle team engages the crowd. Be sure to participate for a chance to win some great prizes!

1:00 PM (Approx.)

  • Race Finals

    • The best teams from the heats will face off in the final race. Cheer on your favorites!

2:30 PM

  • Event Conclusion

    • The event will wrap up, and participants will begin to pack up their outhouses.

3:00 PM

  • Roads Reopen

    • The roads will be cleared, and the event area will return to normal.

FOR SPECTATORS

 

10:00 AM

  • Arrival & Setup

    • Park on 2nd Ave by Cochrane Coffee Traders and unload your outhouse. Head over to Mackays Ice Cream to set up your team’s spot.

    • Registration: Don’t forget to check in at the Registration Booth to receive your team number.

10:30 AM - 11:00 AM

  • Final Preparations

    • Make sure your outhouse is ready to race! Listen for instructions from the MCs and be prepared to line up for the heats.

11:00 AM

  • Race Event Begins

    • The races will begin with team introductions and the first round of heats.

12:00 - 12:30 PM

  • Halftime Entertainment & Raffle

    • Take a break after the heats and enjoy the halftime entertainment. Participate in the raffle and interact with the crowd.

1:00 PM (Approx.)

  • Race Finals

    • If your team made it to the finals, get ready for the final showdown!

2:30 PM

  • Event Tear Down

    • Begin packing up your equipment and clearing the area.

3:00 PM

  • Roads Reopen

    • Ensure that all vehicles and equipment are cleared from the area by this time.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

​

  • Parking: Spectators and participants can find parking along 2nd Ave and nearby public lots.

  • Food & Drinks: Enjoy a variety of food trucks located near "Sunny Side Up" and 1st Ave.

  • Safety & Emergency: Emergency access routes will remain open throughout the event. Please follow the guidance of event staff.
